Friday check in: music, flowers, and Borderlands from With Strings Attached

Last evening we enjoyed the season finale at the Zion Park District bandshell.  The Blooz Brothers covered great classic rock.   We set up our chairs next to our friend Kathy.

This week's wildflowers, clockwise from left:  nodding onion, blazing star/gayfeather (liatris),  veronicastrum (with bumblebee), widow's frill/starry campion, rough blazing star/button snakeroot, woodland sunflower.

In the studio:  Borderlands is finished.  The name comes from the variety of fabric:  Australian prints for the blocks and setting triangles, Stonehenge for the sashes, an African print for the border.  (I had enough scrap to remove the big white flowers ...

Friday check in: ins and outs from With Strings Attached

Car update:  the right control arm had failed.  I had never heard of that part and looked it up.  The control arms are one of the core components of a suspension system and serve as the direct connection points between the front wheel assemblies and the vehicle's frame. The control arms allow a driver to steer a car while also guiding the wheels up and down with the road surface. Although they are simplistic in appearance, control arms have a vital role in a vehicle's overall stability and drivability.    $943.95.

Weekly update: Shining Light from With Strings Attached

The name Eleanor means "shining light."  And thus the quilt I made with the African wax resist prints from Ellie's estate named itself.   (See the Friday's post for the fabric story and this post for more about our friend.)

It's quilted and bound.  66" x 75".

I outline-quilted the motifs in the prints and quilted a curving line in the tone-on-tones.

The back.

It was chilly and rainy today so I declared it a sewing day.  (Not much rain, but any amount is welcome right now.)

Weekly update: a finish and a start from With Strings Attached

It's sometimes hard to realize that just three years ago most of us had never Zoomed.   This week I had three Zoom sessions --  on Wednesday,ALA Freedom to Read Foundation (two screens of participants); on Saturday, AAUW-Illinois winter board meeting; and on Sunday, Retired Members Round Table Fifth Sunday Book Club. ("Biography" was the prompt for this session.  Our choices were eclectic, from Maus to Prince Harry to Jimmy Buffett.)

I made16 framed four-patch blocks in each of the monthly colors for the 2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I set the blocks last year.  Now they're a quilt!  60 ...

Weekly update: January summary and February plans from With Strings Attached

On Friday I wrote that I'd made 13 out of 16 tote bags. I am pleased to say that #14-#16 are finished! Now I can work on other projects.

But first, the January stash report:

Fabric OUT: 95-3/4 yards (which includes 61 yards to the quilt guild Raffle Mania)
Fabric IN: 126-3/4 yards (99 won at Raffle Mania, 11-3/4 from an estate sale, 15-1/2 from my Philadelphia trip), $105.  That's still a bargain at .83 per yard.
Net GAIN: 31 yards

Raffle Mania winnings

Philadelphia purchases
My new favorite fabric genre is African ...
